DEO goes international!
We regularly participate in international projects focused on raising awareness and creating debate about the European Union. Our initiatives aim to foster dialogue, promote democratic values, and enhance knowledge of EU affairs. We believe that through cooperation, we can create stronger educational frameworks and more engaged citizens. At DEO, we are passionate about building networks and exchanging ideas with partners across Europe. Get in touch if you are interested in working with us!

The European Climate Change Curriculum (ECCC) was an Erasmus+ project that ran from 2021 to 2023, aimed at secondary school learners across Europe. It brought together four secondary schools and five NGOs from Denmark, Spain, the Netherlands, and Serbia to develop a shared educational approach to climate change.
The project focused on creating a multilingual e-book that explored national climate challenges within a broader European framework. Each chapter offered country-specific insights, interviews with local climate experts, and interactive activities designed to spark critical thinking and discussion among students.
ECCC emphasized informal and participatory learning, encouraging students to engage with topics like sustainability, climate policy, and environmental responsibility. All educational resources—including a Teacher’s Corner and a Student’s Corner—were made freely available on the project’s website to support learning both inside and outside the classroom. Through collaboration and exchange, the ECCC helped empower young Europeans to better understand and act on climate issues.

Building European Democracy was an Erasmus+ project focused on informal adult learning, running from 2022 to 2024. It brought together the Danish organisation Democracy in Europe Organisation, the Croatian organisation Crosol, and the Belgian organisation Europahuis Ryckevelde. These partners collaborated to strengthen European debate and cross-border cooperation between Denmark, Croatia, and Belgium.
The project centered on two major themes in European collaboration. The first was the EU’s green transition, examining how sectors such as energy, transport, and agriculture could contribute to a more sustainable Europe. The second theme was the rule of law, exploring current challenges in some EU member states and how to better uphold legal and democratic standards in the future. As part of its informal learning approach, the project published two e-books and organized online debates and workshops on both topics.

PEACE – Pan-European Awareness in Collaborative Education is an Erasmus+ project developed for secondary school learners, with the active involvement of teachers from Belgium, Denmark, and Ireland. The project runs from 2024-2026 and aims to make education about the European Union more engaging, inclusive, and relevant to young people across Europe.
PEACE seeks to increase trans-European awareness of the EU and EU-related topics, broaden access to EU education for a diverse range of students, and strengthen young people’s participation in democratic processes. A central goal is to deepen students’ understanding of national perspectives on the climate crisis and related EU challenges, while also supporting the democratic education of young Europeans.
To achieve these goals, the project is developing four innovative and freely accessible teaching tools:
- An escape room about EU climate policy
- A role play focusing on EU defence policy
- A debate format on EU climate policy
- A debate format on EU values
These materials encourage active learning and cross-cultural dialogue in the classroom.
